And You Call Yourself A Pastor’s Child?

Quote: “, it seems like when God called the Pastor, the phone was on speaker because the whole family answered.”
Growing up as a PK, we see all sorts. We see church from behind the veil. We see how our parents live. We see how they preach. We see how they affect the lives of people. And firsthand, whether we like it or not, we are being mentored. Unconsciously, we are being mentored. You don’t have to be a Pastor. But remember that every child of God is called to go. Be it in the marketplace or wherever you are, you are meant to shine your light.

So first of all do not be pressured by thinking that because you are a Pastor’s child automatically you are a minister. PKs understand firsthand what it means to be called. And every child of God is called to reach other people. At the end of the day, it’s about souls for Jesus. It’s about souls for the kingdom. That is all it’s about. I wanted to be normal. I wanted to be a normal human being. And my mind was when I grow up and I’m an adult, I can finally be normal.
As a Pastor’s kid, you are on the front lines of seeing God move. You have seen the miracles. You have seen prayer work. You have seen prayer being answered. You have seen God move firsthand. So this is not an idea. It is a reality for you. The Holy Spirit told me, Self-pity and self-pride are twins. The same coin. It is still SELF. Whether you think yourself not good enough or you think yourself too good, the common denominator is SELF. When it comes to the things of the SPIRIT, it cannot be driven by SELF. It must be driven by the SPIRIT OF GOD. It is an honour for you to call me to steward the souls of men. I am not worthy, but he that called me has qualified me.

My mother would tell me all the time, Fast is fragile. Slow is solid. If it’s easy, it can’t be good. If it’s hard, it must be good.

Bible says the path to heaven is a narrow road, but to hell is wide. So, I mean, the things of God are not the easiest things to do, but it is worth every moment. God has been so deliberate to put you in that home because there are things that need to be deposited in you for your future. Be it on the altar or be it in the marketplace or be it in whatever mountain God is pushing you to. Spiritually, you are at the battlefront. In the army, you have the frontline soldiers. The frontline soldiers are the ones that are ready to go. They’re ready to die. They go first. They attack. As PKs, we are frontline soldiers. We know the cost. God knew you and has put in you everything that you would need to withstand everything that the devil can throw against you. When you’re on the battlefield, the enemy only shoots at the people that are threats. If the enemy is trying to shoot at you, you are a threat. The enemy is gonna do everything in his power to distract you and to take you out. And the devil knows you’re a SPEC. I’m a Pastor, and I am very free in my position because I am authentically myself, and I’m doing what God has called me to do.

You might not be called to the altar, but you are called to this generation. You are called for such a time as this. Be it in the church or be it in the marketplace. You are called and you have been mentored and you have all that you need to go into the world and do that which God has called you to do.

Q/A Session

Q1: How do you as a Pastor’s kid sustain a healthy self-esteem?
  • Your identity is not pastor’s kid. That is one of your names.
  • You are a child of God first.
  • To have a healthy self-esteem, you have to know who you are.
  • What is your purpose? Your purpose is gonna be found in Jesus Christ because he created you. So the more you know God, the more you know what he’s created you to be.
  • The more you know God, the more you find yourself in God, the more you understand who you are.
Q2: What do you do as a pastor’s child if your parents’ marriage is falling
apart?
  • What you need to do is pray. You need to pray.
  • Your parents might stay together, and they might not. Because sometimes you are praying God, let them stay together. What is God’s will?
  • Ask the Lord to guide you, pray about it.
  • If you have a counsellor that, you know, that is that would not that is bound by client patient confidentiality. You can speak to your counsellor.
  • If you don’t have a trusted person, please, I’d advise that’s part of being a PK. Some things you have to carry in your heart and pray about.
Q3: How do I deal with my resentment I have towards a particular family
that hurt my parents, even with all the sacrifices my parents did they still
left the church?
  • You’re weighing yourself down. Leave them to God. Report them to God.

  • God can never be held stranded. So if somebody leaves the church, God will raise another person in that place.

Q4: Now that the call has been passed onto you, how do you prepare the
next pastor kids?
  • My kids are Christians. I said, don’t label them PKs because this brings pressure.

  • With them, what I want more than anything else for them to genuinely know and love God. You see, that to me is the foundation of anything. Whether they become PKs tomorrow or they become big in whatever mountain of God has put them, it is their genuine love for Jesus Christ that is the most important thing to me.

  • The more they know God, the more they become who God has called to be. And it must be authentic. Because as speaking, we can we can speak the Christianese.

  • It’s the authentic-ness of loving and knowing God that’s more important to me than anything else.

Q5: What is your favourite thing or what was your favorite thing about
being a pastor’s child? Was it sitting in front, getting extra meat?
  • I think it was more pressure. People come and say, I want to be your friend. And I’m like, there’s no application for friendship. I think it just happens naturally.

  • My parents got a lot of gifts. So I open their gifts, perfume, I open all the food. I liked all those things. Yeah. That’s a good part of being a PK.

Q6: How did you handle people judging you based on your appearance?
  • People have a way that they believe that Christians should look, especially Africans

  • For me is what is God telling you and how you’re gonna reach the souls that God has called you.

  • You must be anchored in whatever you do. The motive must be right.

  • Because one thing I said for me, I cannot but be me.

  • I think my grace and my anointing is authenticity.

  • I can’t preach the God I’ve experienced without telling you what he’s done for me on a personal level. So I think it’s a big part of being authentic with God, and that comes out in your story and your message.
